My name is Sarah Webb and I am currently writing my PhD thesis for The Open University in Milton Keynes. My research is into Single Bubble Sonoluminescence and Aerosol Spectroscopy. It may seem on first inspection that there is no relation between the two. They are related, at least in our group, however by the fact that we use ultrasound techniques in both. In sonoluminescence sound energy is transformed into light by bubbles and in the spectroscopy we use an ultrasound field to levitate aerosols long enough to get high resolution spectra.
