I would have no problem buying into the document as it is but I 'll share a few thought with you.. It was suggested by Declan that if we want to have a strong interaction with physics we should de -emphasise the technological plasmas label. I would suggest we use the term surface modification rather than surface treatment. I have a some concern about the list of themes. The list, while inclusive, is very similar to that which came out of the Foresight meeting many moons ago. I wonder if we shouldn't try to bundle them a bit, i.e. reduce the number of themes so that it is more focussed. ( I always felt TPI tried to be too broad) Something along the lines: Fundamental studies of nonthermal plasmas. The physics and chemistry of plasma-based surface modification Emerging plasma concepts e.g.new length and time scales, plasmas in liquid media and solid media (allowing engagement with the laser ablation people) Plasma modelling and diagnostic development for process monitoring, control and development. Fundamental atomic, molecular and surface phenomena in the nonthermal plasma environment (allowing engagement with the the am and surface communities) Since we didn't get our own Faraday we should seek to explore connections in with some of the existing ones. I'd obviously be interested in most of the themes you proposed and be glad to co-ordinate a theme but feel it would be good if we get fresh, younger faces in there. However let me know if you need one picked up and I'll be glad to generate a couple of paragraphs.
