FLAP Home Page

FLAP (Flexible Learning Approach to Physics) is a high quality flexible supported self-study teaching resource, covering physics and mathematics from a level equivalent to UK GCSE Science to some point within the first year of a UK physics degree course. It is mainly text based, but has some audio visual and computer aided support. It is arguably the most significant development in the teaching of university physics seen for decades.

FLAP has been funded by the four UK Higher Education Funding Councils under their Teaching and Learning Technology Programme (TLTP). It has been produced by The University of Reading and the Open University on behalf of a consortium of UK universities, drawing on the experience of physics educators from more than twenty institutions and addressing the common problems of a broadening intake, having less familiarity with mathematics in a physical context.

FLAP brings teaching and learning efficiency gains, allowing institutions to use staff resources to maximum effect and to produce high quality courses to their own design, rapidly and flexibly, including all teaching and assessment materials.

FLAP allows students to study in an active, enjoyable and interactive way through supported self study, with much more control of the learning, developing deeper understanding and increased motivation.
